A dark, dark, dark movie featuring an all-star cast. This 2003 film was directed by Clint Eastwood and was based on the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. Filmed in Boston (yes, there actually is a "Mystic River" here - it's north of the city and flows approximately parallel to the lower portions of the Charles River), the cast includes Sean Penn and Tim Robbins (both of whom earned Academy Awards), as well as Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, Laura Linney and Emmy Rossum. It tells the story of three young boys whose lives are forever changed when one of them is abducted. Twenty-five years later, the friends are reunited when one of their daughters is murdered. (See? I told you it was a dark film!) But it's a riveting movie and the acting is top-notch.
