The mission of the international nonprofit NFPA, established in 1896, is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.
The NFPA Expo is open today from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm - giving attendees one more chance to meet with exhibitors from more than 320 companies. There's a definite buzz in the Expo as attendees move booth to booth, surveying the latest technologies and services.
Believe it or not, we're already thinking about next year's NFPA's Conference & Expo in Chicago, June 22-25, 2015.
If you're an exhibitor here at the show, be on the lookout for re-sign information that is being delivered to all booths. Join us in the re-sign office just outside the 400 aisle to complete the process. If you're not a current exhibitor but are interested in next year's show, please visit the resign office at 1:30 pm on Wednesday. Of course, you can always contact ROC Exhibitions for more information about the many benefits of exhibiting at NFPA's annual Expo.
One of our exhibitors, Zurich Services Corporation, is offering a “RiskTopic” report on unintended consequences of solar panel installations. These can include fire ignition on a building exterior, difficulty in de-energizing during a fire suppression event, increased difficulty for first responders, among other concerns.
If you're here in Las Vegas, visit Zurich Services Risk Engineering in booth #1365 for a copy of this RiskTopic report which also includes practical ways to mitigate these risks.
UL has been a pioneer in developing and using methodologies for testing the safety of wireless chargers for electric vehiclles. Wireless charging of electric vehicles (EVs) is a high-power application, and there are concerns about the risks related to the human body, the environment and property. UL’s research is helping to mitigate safety concerns by developing ways to empirically determine and predict high-risk situations related to wireless chargers and EVs. If you're here in Las Vegas and want to learn more, talk to a UL representative in booth 1847.
In related news, attendees can also learn what the state of Nevada is doing to promote Electric Vehicles. "EV 101" will be presented by the Nevada Electric Vehicle Accelerator at 2:00 pm on Tuesday in the EV Safety Pavilion. (End of the 400 Aisle). NEVA is an active supporter of NFPA’s Electric Vehicle Safety Program.
The NFPA Expo is the place to see and be seen, and network with colleagues and other safety professionals from around the world. Each day, attendees can also visit the Exhibitor Presentation Theater for detailed overviews of the latest industry products and services.
In just a few hours, an official ribbon-cutting will herald the opening of NFPA's 2014 Expo here at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. More than 320 exhibitors will showcasing their solutions to fire protection, life safety, electrical, and security challenges. But right now, giant wooden crates are being unpacked, carpet is being installed, and display racks are being filled. As amazing as it seems, it will all be done when the doors open at 3:30 this afternoon.
Next week Las Vegas will see an influx of countless professionals — from architects, engineers, contractors, and building managers to public and private fire service, enforcement agencies, insurers, and utilities. NFPA Conference & Expo opens on Monday, June 9th with educational conference sessions, hundreds of exhibitors and the NFPA Technical Meeting for codes and standards review. While at the expo, stop by the NFPA booth 857 and we'll get you set up for a video interview.
As you plan your NFPA Conference & Expo® itinerary, simply plan to travel with your "Passport" to NFPA Section locations and events. The countdown is on! We're less than two weeks away from brining you the largest fire and life safety event of the year. It gets pretty hectic around here at this time, but we don't mind because we know it's for a good cause. Speaking of good causes, we're delighted to announce that the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation will be collecting donations at the expo on Monday and Tuesday.
Their goal is $10,000 in two days! That's roughly two dollars per attendee – definitely doable! Funds raised at the show will go towards the Burn Survivor Initiative which allows children who have survived traumatic burn injuries to attend summer and winter camp.
The Burn Foundation regularly gives back to the community in several ways:
Provide assistance to burn victims and their families
Provide assistance to children at risk that are identified by local fire agencies
Assist in catastrophic events as a resource to fire agencies and the community
Further education and awareness of fire and life safety
The Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation consists of fire department active personnel from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Clark County, Henderson, and North Las Vegas Fire Departments. Stop by Booth 1021 to say hello!
