The 2014 NFPA Conference & Expo Keynote Address will be presented by best-selling author and historian, Michael Beschloss.
The Keynote Address is one of the highlights of the General Session -- an opportunity for everyone in attendance to hear from NFPA leaders and gain inspiration and insights from one of today's leading authorities. So mark your calendar for Monday, June 9 from 1:00-3:00 pm. Join us for the Chair's Remarks by Phillip C. Stittleburg, Chair of NFPA Board of Directors, the President's Report by James M. Shannon, NFPA President & CEO, and a special presentation – NFPA celebrates the past and embraces the future recognizing current President James Shannon and introducing the next president of NFPA. Appropriately, the topic that Mr. Beschloss will address during his talk is Great President's Past and Present.
If anyone knows the American President, it is Michael Beschloss. The widely praised author of nine books, he has been called “the nation’s leading Presidential historian” by Newsweek. As a master in his field, Beschloss brings us inspiring, humorous and tragic never-before-told stories of American presidents – from George Washington to George W. Bush – as they struggle with war, peace and domestic crisis. He puts President Obama in historical perspective and assesses his potential place in the history of the American presidency. He reveals the qualities that have made great presidents in history and shows how to find leaders who have them now – in politics, business and civic life.
Beschloss’ latest book, Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America, 1789-1989, has been lauded as an absorbing and inspiring saga detailing the crucial moments in American history when courageous Presidents influenced the future of the country. It was a New York Times and Washington Post best-seller. With surprising new sources and a dazzling command of history and human character, Beschloss brings to life these flawed, complex men, their wives, their families, their friends, and their foes. Never have we had a more intimate, behind-the-scenes view of Presidents coping with the supreme dilemmas of leading the free world and their own lives.
Other books include a highly praised trilogy on President Lyndon Johnson’s newly released secret tapes, Taking Charge and Reaching for Glory, hailed as incomparable portraits of a President at work. The Crisis Years: Kennedy and Khrushchev, 1960-1963, won the Ambassador Book Prize and was cited by the New Yorker as the “definitive” history of John Kennedy and the Cold War. The Conquerors: Roosevelt, Truman and the Destruction of Hitler's Germany, 1941-1945 was a New York Times best-seller.

Then get ready for something different. We added 2 new tracks and added images to show the dyanmic format of the sessions. Do you see a magnifier glass? That indicates it's a case study format. If you see a trio of people, that indicates a panel discussion. I think you get the picture. In some instances, we pulled out the session description to give you an idea of what the session will be about. And very shortly all the session descriptions will be on web as well. We're just crossing our Ts on final details behind the scenes.
Next, check out the Sponsors and Exhibitors. We have a rock solid list of participants for you to prepare for. Page 12 provides important details on the 2014 Association Technical Meeting and the list of documents that are up for review.
