NFPA Conference & Expo

The Conference & Expo has so many amazing educational opportunities packed into it, that they all can’t be contained within the actual conference dates. That's why we are offering 17 different seminars on the weekend before and the Friday after the conference.

 

Saturday, June 9^th is a busy day, with a total of 14 seminars. Among these 14 seminars is a 3-day NFPA 70E certificate program. If you are exposed to energized electrical equipment or are responsible for worker safety, this seminar will provide you with vital electrical safety information. We also have two other certificate programs starting on Saturday, one on inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarms (NFPA 72) and the other on inspection, testing and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems (NFPA 25).

 

We have four brand new 1-day seminars this year. On Saturday, we have a NEC seminar on health care and emergency systems (article 517), and a seminar on stairway usability and safety for fire safety professionals. Sunday brings an NFPA 101 health care update seminar, and a seminar on special suppression systems which will provide an overview of major requirements found in NFPA 11, NFPA 12, NFPA 15, NFPA 17A, NFPA 750, NFPA 2001, and NFPA 2010.

 

If you decide to stay on for a post conference seminar on Friday, June 15th, you could be among the very first to hear about changes to NFPA 13, NFPA 20, and NFPA 72 that the association’s membership voted on the previous day. These 1-day seminars will provide you with the latest changes, the technical background, and their impact on design, installation and maintenance. Sessions on Proposed Changes to NFPA Documents

There is a proverb that states, “Change starts when someone sees the next step.” Well, NFPA’s technical committees have seen the next steps and have initiated changes for the documents in the annual 2012 reporting cycle. Your next step is to check out all the sessions we have at this year’s conference that focus on these proposed changes.

Monday, June 11^th

M12, M25, and M45 comprise a three part panel discussion on proposed changes to the 2013 edition of NFPA 72. Among the topics to be discussed are circuits and pathways; emergency control functions and interfaces; initiating devices; notification appliances, and emergency communications systems. The moderator and panelists are all NFPA 72 technical committee members.

M09, M20, and M40 comprise another three part series, however these sessions will discuss proposed changes affecting installation requirements and storage requirements in NFPA 13, as well as changes for residential requirements found in NFPA 13D, and NFPA 13R.

M49 will focus on the key revisions to both NFPA 61 and NFPA 654, as well as an update on the progress of NFPA’s efforts to restructure the combustible dust project committees and documents.

Tuesday, June 12^th

T29 a session on changes to NFPA 400 will not only include an update on the new edition, it will also include a tutorial on using the code.

Wednesday, June 13^th

W05 a spotlight session on the proposed changes to NFPA 20 will provide an overview of the changes proposed in the document and will discuss some of the rationale behind the changes. The panel for this session will be composed of NFPA 20 technical committee members.

W28 will discuss the anticipated changes to NFPA 110 and NFPA 111. The session will also review emergency power testing and maintenance issues and their impact on operational reliability.

W32 will focus on NFPA 68 and will discuss how the new equation for venting deflagrations of gas mixtures and mists was developed by the NFPA 68 Technical Committee.

Security Systems News says, "Want to be in the know? Come to the NFPA show"

We want to thank Security Systems News for recently publishing an article about our upcoming 2012 Conference & Expo in Las Vegas. The article details some of the highlights that this year's Conference & Expo will include. 

One of the things that will be highlighted this year, as reported by the article, is the 2013 edition of NFPA 72, the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, which will come out this fall. The show will have three separate panel presentations on significant content changes approved by the nine technical committees of NFPA 72.

The first panel will cover documentation, new in the 2013 code, and fundamentals, inspection, testing and maintenance, supervising station alarm systems, and public emergency alarm reporting systems.

The second panel will cover circuits and pathways, emergency control functions and interfaces, protected premises fire alarm systems, and single- and multiple-station alarms and household fire alarm systems, the NFPA said. And the third panel will focus on initiating devices, notification appliances, and emergency communications systems.

There also will be a post-conference seminar on NFPA 72. Post-conference sessions were added for the first time last year and proved so popular they’ve been brought back this year. The show also offers pre-conference seminars, as it has done for several years now.
